Closer to you than a fly will ever be

A fruit fly's brain is complete and it is astonishing, but it is an insect's brain. A zebrafish is a vertebrate: it has a forebrain, a midbrain, a hindbrain, a cerebellum and a spinal cord laid out on the same plan as yours, in a body that is transparent at five days old. You can watch every neuron in it fire through a microscope while the animal hunts, swims and flinches.

That is why it is the model organism for the first whole vertebrate brain. Google Research's own neural-mapping timeline lists zebrafish under 2026: an automated whole-brain structural map (Fish1) already exists, and Harvard, HHMI Janelia and Google are now completing a human-verified whole-brain connectome of a second fish.

Research moves for years. The chart moves in minutes.

This token exists because of a coincidence of timing: in the same week a fruit fly's brain launched a coin, Google's public roadmap said the next whole brain would be a fish. Nobody had to invent a story. The connectome of a vertebrate is being finished in public, by real labs, on a stated timeline, and the animal at the centre of it is a striped fish four millimetres long.

What this page promises is only what it can show: the science, dated and linked; the chain, read live; and the difference between the two stated plainly below. The story continues whether or not anybody holds anything. That is what makes it a good one.

WHAT THIS IS NOT, STATED PLAINLY

The parts that aren't the fish

Not Google, not Harvard, not Janelia. The research is theirs. This token and this page are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any of them, and none of their data, names or logos is used beyond citing published work.

The token is not the dataset. Holding it gives no access to, stake in, or influence over any connectome. The science would be exactly the same if this token did not exist.

The fish on this page is an illustration. The point cloud is drawn procedurally to the shape of a larval zebrafish; the flashes are transfers on the chain, not recorded neural activity. ZAPBench's real recordings are linked above, and if a browser-sized slice of them is ever made, it will replace the drawing and this line will change.

"2026" is Google's word, not ours. The Fish2 connectome is listed as in progress on their timeline. It is not finished, and this page will say when it is, with a link, rather than before.
